Domaine Raymond Morin "La Sauvignole", 2018, Loire Valley, France
If you bottled Paul Simons Graceland, it would taste like this upbeat Sauvignon.
The Paul Simons Graceland of wine. An upbeat holiday vibe from left field. Lively, fun and friendly, but somehow timelessly fresh and rejuvenating. Crunchy green apple, spring buds, perky passionfruit and crisp citrus. Simply add friends, sunshine, a barbecue and you've got a party right there. Does anyone have a number for Ladysmith Black Mambazo?
The Morin family have been winemakers for four generations. Based in the heart of the Layon hillsides, they produce a dozen wines from three main sites. They modestly put their success down to the sheer generosity of the soils around Anjou, but they certainly know how to make the most of them. By front-loading the process basically doing much of the winemaking process in the fields and then taking their time where possible when fermenting, they create wines more expressive and sophisticated than a mime in a tuxedo.
BY HUMBLE GRAPE
At Humble Grape, we believe wine is for sharing & that each wine-drinker should be allowed to build their own version of their world wine. We seek out hand-crafted wines made by people with love, & import them directly. Small, family-run producers get the representation they deserve, & customers only pay for the wine they’re drinking, with no agents, importers or distributors. And as they’re made with loving care, all these wines are biodynamic, organic or come from sustainable vineyards. As many of the wines we list are small-batch, our wine list of approx 400 wines is living & updated frequently.
What we bring to the wine drinker is a selection of wines that represent stepping out of the supermarkets, & in return they get to know our “Hero Producers”. Hero producers are winemakers that we import directly & exclusively to the UK. They personally work closely with our staff to keep them train about what is happening in the vineyard & in the winery, & how we can best uphold their ethos. They are all small production, family-run, as well as run biodynamic, organic and/or sustainable farms. They visit us quite often, collaborating in winemaker dinners & guest meet & greets.
